Adelaide is buzzing with anticipation as the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships 2025 are now just 100 days away, promising to transform the city into a vibrant hub of sporting excitement. Scheduled from November 14-23, the championship will utilize The Drive and Pinky Flat, marking it as the largest beach volleyball event ever hosted in the Asia or Oceania region. Spectators are highly encouraged to join the festivities right in the heart of Adelaide`s CBD.
The 100-day countdown was officially celebrated with a `mystery box` unveiling in Rundle Mall. This surprise event delighted locals as Olympic gold medalist and event ambassador Kerri Pottharst personally distributed 300 beach volleyballs, sparking enthusiasm among the community.
Pottharst conveyed her growing excitement, noting, “This year marks the 25th anniversary of our Olympic gold medal, and Adelaide will be a pivotal moment to ignite the next golden era for our sport.” She further highlighted the unique opportunity for fans to witness Australia’s men’s and women’s teams in action from day one, particularly during the “Green and Gold Super Session” on opening night, where they will play alongside an Olympic medalist. She emphasized, “It’s going to be electric.”
Tickets for this much-anticipated event are currently available for purchase.
For the initial seven days of competition, Pinky Flat, situated in the heart of Adelaide, will be reimagined as the `Central Beach District.` This specially curated festival zone is designed to celebrate South Australia`s dynamic beach culture. Attendees will be able to step directly from the Adelaide Riverbank Pedestrian Bridge onto the sand, immersing themselves in an atmosphere filled with live music, local food and beverage experiences, engaging interactive volleyball activities, and a main stage offering stunning views of the Adelaide city skyline. This innovative approach promises a new kind of sports experience, seamlessly blending world-class competition with the iconic South Australian beachside lifestyle.
Andrew Dee, CEO of Volleyball Australia, underscored the global appeal of beach volleyball, stating that hosting the 2025 World Championships in Adelaide will provide Australian fans with an unparalleled chance to get up close with the sport`s top athletes. He added, “But it will be about more than just the action on the court; our team is set to bring to life a vibrant fan experience right in the middle of the City of Adelaide – whether you are a long-time volleyball fan or new to the sport, you’ll feel the energy.”
The Hon Zoe Bettison MP, Minister for Tourism & Multicultural Affairs, emphasized the event`s significance, stating, “The 2025 Beach Volleyball World Championships will showcase South Australia at its best – world-class sport, a vibrant city backdrop, and an unforgettable visitor experience.” She highlighted Adelaide’s convenience and exceptional culinary offerings as factors making it an ideal sporting destination for both athletes and fans, which the global beach volleyball community will experience in November.
