Adigwe Crowned MVP at Women’s U21 World Championship

Merit Chinenyenwa Adigwe, the Italian opposite attacker, has been honored as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women`s U21 World Championship. Her exceptional performance was crucial in leading Italy to secure the gold medal, notably by scoring an impressive 34 points in the championship final against Japan.

“I am incredibly happy and deeply proud of this achievement. Receiving the MVP award is a significant milestone, and I eagerly anticipate celebrating this moment with both my family and my teammates,” Adigwe stated.

Throughout the tournament, the dominant Italian opposite accumulated a total of 166 points. This impressive tally included 132 points from attacks, 24 from blocks, and 10 aces. Adigwe consistently demonstrated her scoring prowess, achieving at least 30 points in three other matches against formidable opponents such as Poland, China, and the host nation Indonesia, solidifying her reputation as the competition`s leading scorer.

Beyond her MVP title, Adigwe was also recognized as the Best Opposite in the tournament`s prestigious Dream Team. She was joined by two other talented Italian players: Teresa Maria Bosso, who was selected as one of the Best Outside Hitters, and Dalila Marchesini, who distinguished herself as one of the Best Middle Blockers. The strong representation of Italian players in the Dream Team highlighted the team`s overall strength and depth, which ultimately paved their way to the gold medal.

Japan also showcased remarkable talent within the Dream Team selections. Sae Omori joined Bosso as a Best Outside Hitter, while Chisato Hanaoka earned the Best Setter honor. Additionally, Ami Uchizawa was recognized as the Best Libero, completing Japan`s strong showing. Brazil was also represented by Luana Camila Kuskowski, who rounded out the elite lineup as the second Best Middle Blocker.
