Alessia Orro Crowned MVP as Italy Secures Second World Championship Title

Alessia Orro, the pivotal 27-year-old setter, masterfully guided Italy to clinch their second FIVB Volleyball Women`s World Championship title in Thailand. Her outstanding leadership and skill were recognized with the coveted Most Valuable Player (MVP) award during the Sunday awarding ceremony.

Orro`s exceptional performance also earned her a distinguished spot on the Dream Team for the 20th edition of the World Championship. This elite selection featured representatives from all four semifinalist nations, underscoring the remarkably high standard of international women`s volleyball across the globe.

Since her integration into the Italian national team in 2015, Orro has been an indispensable component in the squad`s recent historic achievements. Over the past 15 months, Italy has celebrated an impressive string of victories, including the World Championship, the Paris Olympics, and two Volleyball Nations League titles, all contributing to their astounding 36-match winning streak.

During the World Championship, Orro executed an impressive 143 successful setting actions, ranking her sixth overall in the tournament. This feat is particularly noteworthy given that many of Italy`s initial matches concluded swiftly in just three sets. Her presence was especially crucial during the pool play matches against Cuba and Belgium, where she served as the team`s only available setter while her backup, Carlotta Cambi, recovered from an injury.

Orro`s consistent excellence has frequently garnered acclaim; she previously received the Best Setter award at the Paris Games and for Italy`s three Volleyball Nations League triumphs in 2022, 2024, and 2025. This latest MVP award, however, marks her first, signifying a major milestone and pinnacle in her illustrious career.

Alessia Orro was one of three Italian stars to be honored with a place on the tournament`s Dream Team. She was joined by the celebrated libero Monica De Gennaro and the formidable team captain and middle blocker, Anna Danesi.

Türkiye, who finished as runner-up, saw two of its key players recognized: star opposite Melissa Vargas and their esteemed team captain and middle blocker, Eda Erdem. Third-place Brazil and fourth-place Japan also had their captains featured in the ideal lineup, with Gabriela `Gabi` Guimarães and Mayu Ishikawa forming the powerful outside hitter duo.
