The Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) recently convened a pivotal Board of Administration meeting in Bangkok, Thailand. Held on September 6 at the newly inaugurated AVC House, this significant gathering brought together prominent leaders from across the Asian region to collaboratively shape the strategic direction and future growth of the sport.
The session commenced with a warm welcome from AVC President Ramon Suzara, who extended his greetings to all delegates. FIVB President Fabio Azevedo also addressed the assembly, underscoring the vital role of unity and a shared vision in propelling volleyball`s global expansion.
Azevedo emphasized: “Our presence here today is solely for the advancement of our sport, with athletes and fans consistently at the heart of our decisions… We envision doubling engagement with our sport in under eight years. This ambitious goal can only be realized by enhancing accessibility, comprehensibility, and affordability… Asia, and indeed the entire world, presents extraordinary opportunities for growth, and we are dedicated to achieving this together.”
A key feature of the meeting was a comprehensive presentation by the FIVB. This included an in-depth look at its Strategic Vision 2032, an introduction to the FIVB Athletes’ Commission, and a detailed overview of the Volleyball Empowerment program.
Furthermore, the AVC President presented an extensive activity report for the confederation. Executive Zonal Vice Presidents complemented this by providing updates from the Central, Eastern, Oceania, Southeastern, and Western zones, collectively showcasing the breadth of development and initiatives underway across the region.
The Finance Committee successfully secured approval for the AVC`s 2026 Budget, its Financial Report, and the Auditor’s Report. Subsequent reports from the Referees, Coaches, Beach Volleyball, Development, and Medical Committees highlighted continuous progress in fortifying the sport at all levels. Attendees also received crucial updates from the host organizers of two major upcoming competitions: the 2026 AVC Women’s Nations Cup and the 2026 AVC Men’s Champions League.
Significantly, the meeting also marked the approval of updates to the AVC Constitution. This is a crucial step towards ensuring that AVC’s governance framework remains modern, highly effective, and fully aligned with the FIVB’s guiding principle of working ‘Together as One.’ Additional presentations from ParaVolley Asia Oceania and discussions around the AVC Gala further enriched the agenda, emphasizing inclusivity and celebration as integral themes for the AVC.
With clearly defined strategic priorities and an strengthened partnership with the FIVB, all stakeholders are diligently collaborating towards achieving the FIVB Strategic Vision 2032, thereby ensuring the sustained prosperity of volleyball throughout the Asian continent.
