Arthur Fery's aspirations of securing his inaugural ATP Tour title at the Winston-Salem Open were definitively halted by Peru's Ignacio Buse in the final on Saturday.

After a closely contested start to the first set, with the score at 3-3, Fery lost six consecutive games. He ultimately succumbed to a 6-3, 6-2 defeat against Buse.

This loss came despite Fery having a strong season, which included reaching the semi-finals at Wimbledon. The promising 22-year-old had already celebrated winning his second trophy of the year, having previously clinched his debut tour-level title at the ATP 500 event in Hamburg.

With his appearance in the Winston-Salem final, Fery, now 24 years old, has ascended to a new career-high ranking of World No. 33 in the live rankings, surpassing Cameron Norrie to become the British No. 1.

Remarkably, just eight weeks prior, Fery was ranked outside the top 100.
