Dream Team! Serena Williams and Carlos Alcaraz to Partner for US Open Mixed Doubles
In a highly anticipated partnership, tennis icon Serena Williams and reigning US Open men's singles champion Carlos Alcaraz are set to compete together in the US Open mixed doubles championship. Both players have received a wild card entry into the tournament.
This marks a significant return to competitive play at Flushing Meadows for Williams, who last played there in 2022. Alcaraz, who recently announced his comeback from a wrist injury to defend his singles title, will be making his mixed doubles debut with Williams.
Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam singles champion and a six-time US Open winner, has a history of success in mixed doubles, having won the title in 1998 with Max Mirnyi. While she has recently competed in singles at Wimbledon and in doubles with her sister Venus at the Cincinnati Open, her participation in the US Open singles remains undecided, though a women's singles wild card is still available.
The mixed doubles field also features other notable pairings, including World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka with Novak Djokovic, and Jessica Pegula teaming up with Taylor Fritz. The mixed doubles main draw is scheduled to commence on Tuesday.
