August 22, 2026Carlos Mendoza1 мин

Lazio, under manager Gennaro Gattuso, has officially strengthened its defense with the signing of Josip Sutalo. The Croatian center-back joins the club from Ajax on a loan deal that includes an option for a permanent transfer.

Lazio's Official Announcement

The club released the following statement: "S.S. Lazio announces that it has temporarily acquired the rights to the sporting performance of the player Josip Šutalo from AFC Ajax, with an option for a permanent purchase."

Transfer Details for Sutalo

Lazio will cover Sutalo's entire salary of 2.5 million euros. They will also pay Ajax a fee of 3 million euros for the loan. The Biancocelesti have secured a buy-out option set at 7.5 million euros, with easily achievable bonuses that could increase the total cost to between 12 and 15 million euros. The Dutch club has also included a 10% sell-on clause for future transfers.

Ajax's Previous Investment in Sutalo

In the summer of 2023, Ajax's then technical director, Sven Mislintat, paid 22 million euros to bring the Croatian center-back to Amsterdam. After a challenging start in the Netherlands, the defender rediscovered his best form under the guidance of Francesco Farioli.

Sutalo to Reunite with Taylor

In Rome, the Croatian international will be reunited with a familiar face: midfielder Kenneth Taylor, who moved to Lazio just six months ago for a fee of nearly 20 million euros.
