Leeds secure second win at Forest in Carabao Cup

Leeds United has secured their second victory at Nottingham Forest in just three days, advancing to the Carabao Cup third round. Daniel Farke's team, who also claimed three Premier League points on Saturday, triumphed 2-0 in the League Cup thanks to goals from Dan James and James Justin.

Having not won at the City Ground since 1972 prior to the weekend, Leeds have now achieved two wins there within 72 hours, marking a successful start to the new campaign for the Yorkshire club.

This is not the ideal start for new Forest boss Oliver Glasner, as the team is still finding its rhythm, although reinforcements are expected with a £50 million deal reportedly agreed for Chelsea striker Liam Delap.

Neither team was likely thrilled about a swift rematch so soon after their Premier League opener. However, Forest showed early promise when James Trafford was forced into a superb save in the 10th minute, parrying Ola Aina's cross-shot that nearly caught him off guard. Shortly after, Justin was in the right position to block Igor Jesus' header.

Leeds grew into the game and had a strong chance to take the lead midway through the first half. James made good progress down the right, but his pull-back was just behind Sean Longstaff, whose shot was directly at Matz Sels.

Both sides were actively attacking. Leeds defender Joe Rodon made a crucial last-ditch tackle to deny Chris Wood, while Sels saved James' low effort at the other end.

The Welsh international, James, demonstrated composure five minutes into the second half. A misplaced header from Aina allowed Longstaff to advance forward and set up James, who skillfully finished to open the scoring.

Forest came close to an immediate response when Arnaud Kalimuendo's cutback found Wood perfectly, but Trafford made an excellent save to deny him from finding the bottom corner. Noah Okafor then sent a shot just wide as Leeds launched a quick counter-attack.

Leeds confirmed their victory with 15 minutes remaining, though it was a scrappy goal. Lucas Nmecha's effort was blocked on the line by Williams, and James Justin eventually managed to put the ball in the back of the net.
