On August 30, 1992, San Siro hosted the Italian Super Cup. On one side was Fabio Capello's formidable AC Milan, known as "The Invincibles." Facing them was Nevio Scala's Parma, boasting attacking talent like Asprilla and Melli. AC Milan took an early lead through the formidable Marco van Basten in the 14th minute. However, Parma managed to equalize just before halftime with a goal from Melli, setting the stage for a decisive second half.

Massaro the Hero

AC Milan also had Jean Pierre Papin, another renowned striker, who was expected to make a significant impact in Italy. However, Daniele Massaro, who came off the bench, proved to be the perfect partner for Van Basten and often the decisive player in crucial moments. His goal, scored 20 minutes from the end, secured the Italian Super Cup for the Milanese club. His winning goal mirrored Van Basten's earlier strike, with a somewhat awkward shot that managed to beat Parma's goalkeeper Taffarel.
