Norwich Cruise Past 10-Man Burnley

August 30, 2026Pablo Navarro2 мин

Norwich has finally kick-started their Championship campaign with a convincing 4-1 home win against a struggling Burnley side. After a slow start to the season, the Canaries found their rhythm early, scoring two goals within the first five minutes. Mo Toure and new signing Andre Brooks were instrumental, both netting two goals to secure a much-needed victory after losing their opening two league matches.

It was another disappointing outing for Burnley, whose struggles were compounded when Josh Laurent, who had scored their sole goal, was shown a second yellow card late in the game, leading to his dismissal. The Clarets have accumulated only one point from their first three fixtures under new manager Nicky Hayen and have not won a league game since February.

Norwich capitalized on defensive errors to quickly establish a two-goal lead on a wet Carrow Road. Less than 90 seconds into the match, Anel Ahmedhodzic's mishandle of a forward pass from Jose Cordoba allowed Toure to break through and score decisively. The Canaries extended their lead on their next attack when a clever pass from Kenny McLean set up Anthony Musaba, whose low cross was finished by Brooks.

Burnley's woes deepened in the 21st minute as Norwich extended their lead to 3-0. From an Oscar Schwartau corner, the ball fell kindly for Toure to tap in his second goal of the match. Despite looking stunned, Burnley had earlier threatened to pull a goal back through Zian Flemming and Aaron Ramsey. However, they did manage to find the net on 27 minutes when Kyle Walker's pass to Laurent allowed him to fire home off the post from just outside the box.

Early in the second half, Jacob Bruun Larsen's powerful shot hit the woodwork, denying Burnley a second goal. While still in contention at that point, Burnley failed to convert their territorial advantage into further goals. Their hopes of a comeback were dashed in the 67th minute when Norwich made it 4-1. Excellent build-up play saw substitute Papa Diallo find Jack Stacey, whose cross was met by Brooks for his second goal of the game.

Burnley's difficult afternoon concluded in the 77th minute when Laurent received his second yellow card for a foul on Anis Ben Slimane as the Norwich substitute attempted to break forward, leaving his team with 10 men.
