Olympic medalists Brandie Wilkerson and Melissa Humana-Paredes return to winning ways on the Beach Pro Tour after two years, thrilling their home fans.
The Canadians went undefeated in front of their home fans this week.
Montréal continues to be a stronghold for Brandie Wilkerson and Melissa Humana-Paredes on the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour. Two years after their initial triumph in the city, the Canadian duo once again claimed victory on Sunday at the Elite event held in Parc Jean-Drapeau.
This win capped off a thrilling week for the Olympic medalists in Montréal, where they competed before an enthusiastic crowd of 3,500 home fans. On Sunday, Brandie and Melissa shared the podium with silver medalists Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann of Germany, and bronze medalists Eduarda ‘Duda’ Lisboa and Ana Patrícia Ramos from Brazil.
Maintaining their dominance throughout the week in Montréal, the Canadian pair delivered a commanding performance in the gold medal match, defeating Müller and Tillmann 2-0 (21-15, 22-20). They controlled the first set from start to finish and executed a powerful comeback to secure the second.
Melissa commented on their efforts, stating, “Our team has dedicated significant work to the first half of this season, particularly focusing on defense, which is a key strength. However, we`ve been refining all aspects of our game. There`s a liberating feeling in our defensive play, and the fans provided immense support.”
This victory marks the Canadians` return to the top of the Beach Pro Tour podium after a two-year hiatus; their previous win together was also in Montréal, in 2023. Prior to this event, they had participated in four Beach Pro Tour stops in 2025, securing a fifth-place finish in three of them.
Brandie expressed her gratitude, saying, “To step onto the court and feel such overwhelming love and support is truly every athlete`s dream. It was an exceptionally special and incredible week. We achieved it!”
Olympic Champions Return to Action with a Medal
After a four-month absence from the Beach Pro Tour, Olympic champions Duda and Ana Patrícia made a strong return, securing a podium finish in Montréal. They decisively defeated Latvian Olympians Tina Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova in straight sets (21-14, 21-16) to clinch the bronze medal.
Ana Patrícia shared her relief, stating, “I`m incredibly happy to be back on Tour. I suffered a significant injury three months ago, and we`ve finally been able to return now. Doing it here in Canada, with the fans creating such an incredible atmosphere, was fantastic.”
Securing bronze in Canada, the Brazilian duo replicated their last result before their injury-forced break in Brasília, marking their second medal in four events this season.
The next Beach Pro Tour Elite event in the 2025 season will be held in Germany, with Hamburg hosting the tournament from August 27-31.
