Brazil, playing on home soil in Betim, emerged victorious in the inaugural Men`s Copa America volleyball competition held last week. Argentina secured the silver medal, with Venezuela claiming the bronze.
The 2025 Men`s Copa America featured five participating teams and was contested in a single round-robin format. Performance in this new event contributed to the FIVB Volleyball World Ranking.
The Brazilian squad dominated the tournament, winning all four of their matches in straight sets to lift the historic America Cup trophy. Their campaign began with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 28-26) win against Venezuela, followed by clean sweeps against Peru (3-0: 25-18, 25-13, 25-20) and Chile (3-0: 25-20, 25-20, 25-23).
Similarly, Argentina also achieved three-point victories over these same opponents. This set the stage for the classic South American rivalry match between Brazil and Argentina on the final day, which effectively served as the gold medal decider. Brazil maintained their perfect tournament record by defeating Argentina 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 26-24).
Argentina finished as the runners-up with a win-loss record of 3-1. Notably, despite being a senior national team event, both Brazil and Argentina fielded teams composed of younger players, distinct from their squads competing in the ongoing Volleyball Nations League.
Venezuela clinched the bronze medal by securing a straight-set win over Peru and staging a comeback victory against Chile with a 3-1 scoreline (22-25, 25-15, 25-22, 26-24) in a crucial match on the final day. Earlier in the tournament, Chile had defeated Peru in straight sets in the opening match, which proved decisive for securing fourth place.
Paulo Vinicios Ferreira da Silva, Brazil`s 23-year-old outside hitter, was recognized as the tournament`s Most Valuable Player (MVP). He was also named to the competition`s Dream Team. The Dream Team lineup included setter Bieler Silva Viriato Medeiros (Brazil), opposite Pablo Cesar Denis Cabanas (Argentina), outside hitter Willner Enrique Rivas Quijada (Venezuela), middle blockers Pietro Pereira de Jesus Santos (Brazil) and Imanol Salazar (Argentina), and libero Luiz Ricardo Evangelista da Silva (Brazil).
