Brazilians Set for Semifinal Showdown at Hamburg Elite16

Brazil is assured a spot on the women’s podium at the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Hamburg Elite for the third consecutive season. Two strong Brazilian teams, Thamela Coradello/Victoria Lopes and Eduarda ‘Duda’ Lisboa/Ana Patrícia Ramos, have successfully advanced to the tournament’s semifinals.

These two Brazilian duos are set to face each other on Sunday at 13:00 local time (11:00 GMT) at the Am Rothenbaum Stadium. This match will follow the first semifinal, which features Germany’s Svenja Müller/Cinja Tillmann against Italy’s Valentina Gottardi/Reka Orsi Toth. The highly anticipated gold medal match is scheduled for 19:00 (17:00 GMT), with the bronze medal contest taking place two hours prior.

`Victoria
Victoria makes a one-handed dig during the all-Brazilian quarterfinal against Carol and Rebecca.

FIVB World Ranking leaders Thamela and Victoria are on the cusp of securing their second consecutive podium finish in Hamburg, having claimed bronze in 2024. They displayed exceptional form on Saturday, winning both their matches in straight sets. Their journey began in the Round of 12, where they defeated French Olympians Clémence Vieira and Aline Chamereau 2-0 (21-16, 21-18). Later, in the quarterfinals, Thamela and Victoria triumphed over fellow Brazilians Carol Salgado and Rebecca Cavalcanti, also in two sets (21-18, 21-17).

Meanwhile, reigning Olympic champions Duda and Ana Patrícia faced a more demanding Saturday. They battled through two tie-breakers to reach the semifinals, two years after winning gold in Hamburg. In the Round of 12, they mounted a comeback to defeat Czech pair Markéta Svozilová and Marie-Sára Štochlová 2-1 (25-27, 21-13, 17-15). Their quarterfinal match saw them eliminate Latvian Olympians Tina Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova in another three-set thriller (21-19, 19-21, 15-11). This upcoming Sunday match will be their third international encounter; Duda and Ana Patrícia previously won both, including their most recent meeting in Montréal two weeks ago.

German Hopes for a Third Consecutive Medal

Representing the host nation in the semifinals for a third successive season, Müller and Tillmann aim for another medal in front of their home crowd. They previously earned bronze in 2023 and silver in 2024, now hoping for gold. The German duo advanced by eliminating compatriots Paula Schürholz and Lea Kunst in two sets (21-16, 21-18) in the Round of 12. They then received a walkover victory in the quarterfinals when Finnish team Taru Lahti and Niina Ahtiainen were forced to withdraw due to injury.

Their opponents, Gottardi and Orsi Toth, are making their first joint semifinal appearance in Hamburg. Gottardi previously placed fourth last year with former partner Marta Menegatti. The Italian pair defeated two German duos en route to the semifinals, overcoming Linda Bock and Louisa Lippmann 2-1 (18-21, 21-17, 18-16) in the Round of 12 and sweeping Sandra Ittlinger and Anna-Lena Grüne 2-0 (21-15, 22-20) in the quarterfinals. Müller and Tillmann previously defeated Gottardi and Orsi Toth in a tie-breaker during the 2025 European Championship earlier this month.
