Bulgaria crowned Balkan U16 women’s champions, hosts Montenegro claim bronze

From June 19th to 23rd, 2025, the U16 Women`s Balkan Championship took place in Pljevlja. The event was organised by the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro (OSCG) with the support of the Ministry of Sports, the Municipality of Pljevlja, the Pljevlja Coal Mine, and the Pljevlja Health Centre.

Playing on home ground, the Montenegrin team secured a noteworthy third place, earning the bronze medal. Their path included wins against North Macedonia and Greece, alongside losses to Bulgaria and Türkiye. Bulgaria claimed the gold, finishing undefeated with four victories, while Turkey secured the silver medal.

OSCG President Nikola Kažić presented the championship trophy to the victorious Bulgarian team. Gold medals for Bulgaria were awarded by Jovana Tošić, President of the Pljevlja Municipal Assembly, and Ivan Bošković, Secretary General of the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro.

The silver medal plaque for the Turkish runners-up was also presented by Jovana Tošić, with Darko Gazdić, Vice President of the Municipality of Pljevlja, and Ivan Ječmenica, Director of Men’s National Teams at OSCG, awarding the silver medals.

Darko Gazdić presented the third-place plaque to Team Montenegro, while Jadranko Lončar, Financial Director of Pljevlja Coal Mine, and Milica Sekulić, Secretary for Sports and Youth of the Municipality of Pljevlja, presented the bronze medals.

Ksenija Božović, Director of Women’s National Teams at the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro, presented the awards for the tournament`s outstanding individual players.

Yoana Nencheva of Bulgaria received the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the U16 Balkan Championship. Turkey`s Ela Demirag was named the best setter, while her teammates Çagla Çağlayandere and Ecrin Selis Türkyaşar were recognized as the best opposite hitter and best outside hitter, respectively. Bulgaria also swept the blocking and libero awards, with Antonia Stanislavova named best middle blocker and Magdalena Bogdanova best libero. The Fair Play Award was presented to Sara Striković from Montenegro.
