COOP SnowVolley Cup Returns to Malå, Sweden

Snow Volleyball

Nestled approximately 800 km north of Stockholm, the serene inland village of Malå, Sweden, is once again gearing up for the annual COOP SnowVolley Cup. As daylight hours extend and winter conditions become increasingly pleasant, the Tjamstan alpine resort is set to host this exciting Snow Volleyball tournament on four dedicated courts. Malå IF aims to build upon last year`s triumph, enhancing the event arena to offer an even more functional and inviting experience for all attendees.

This year`s tournament boasts expanded participation, featuring approximately 20 teams from across northern Sweden competing in three distinct categories: mixed, senior/corporate/youth, and a mixed snow-level division. The competition rules are tailored to suit the format, particularly for the youth snow-level event designed for 10-12-year-olds. This junior category draws inspiration from the Swedish Volleyball Federation’s seven-level system, allowing players a unique adaptation: while three touches per team are still required, participants can catch and throw the ball on their second touch.

The concept of establishing a Snow Volleyball tournament in Malå first emerged over four years ago, met with enthusiasm by local players and leaders. However, these initial plans were put on hold due to the global pandemic. It wasn`t until last year, with the dedicated involvement of leader Johan Grensell, that the vision was revived. This resurgence was made possible through robust support from local sponsors, the community, the Swedish Volleyball Federation, various sports federations, and the CEV. Malå IF champions this event not only to promote the sport but also to fund children`s and youth activities, invigorating the local community. The COOP SnowVolley Cup 2024 is a collaborative effort, hosted by Malå IF volunteers in partnership with COOP Malå and the Tjamstan alpine resort.

Organizers are committed to ensuring this year`s event surpasses its 2023 debut, with ambitions to further cultivate and expand the club`s initiatives in the years ahead.
