Despite a spectacular 41-point outburst from Daniel Guillermo Martinez Campos, Cuba narrowly fell to Czechia in a thrilling five-set encounter at the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship.

The seven-foot opposite hitter dominated the court, registering an astounding 33 kills and eight aces on Friday. This remarkable individual effort established a new tournament record for single-game scoring and single-handedly kept the Cuban squad competitive through to the deciding set.

The 19-year-old Martinez, who had already notched 24 points in the previous day`s match against Bulgaria, shouldered an even heavier offensive burden against Czechia. His sheer power and formidable serving proved unstoppable, consistently breaching the opposing defense.

Even in defeat, Martinez`s contribution was immense, responsible for almost half of Cuba`s total points. His performance solidified his status as the team`s vital offensive linchpin and a leading star of the championship.

Accumulating an impressive 65 points over his initial two matches, Martinez has rapidly become a prominent figure in the Jiangmen tournament. His unforgettable 41-point display, despite the final outcome, is poised to be celebrated as a signature moment of the U21 World Championship.
