European Beach Volleyball Season: Highlights from 11 Countries

Austria

Last week, Seewalchen hosted a stop on Austria`s 2025 win2day Beach Volleyball Tour PRO. The women`s tournament saw the Slovenian-Austrian duo, Tjasa Kotnik and Magdalena Rabitsch, claim victory. They clinched the final with a 2-1 (21-18, 11-21, 15-12) upset against top-seeded Lilli Hohenauer and Lia Berger. Andrea Lorenzova and Mariana Tomasova of Czechia secured the bronze, defeating Sofija Saric and Stephanie Wiesmeyr 2-0 (21-13, 21-4).

In the men`s final, top-seeded Timo Hammarberg and Tim Berger narrowly edged out third-seeded Julian Horl and Alexander Horst with a 2-0 (21-19, 22-20) victory. Second-seeded Christoph Dressler and Philipp Waller earned the bronze after a hard-fought 2-1 (21-19, 20-22, 15-10) win over Georg Kostler and Maximilian Trummer for third place.

Belgium

Leuven recently welcomed a stop on the Belgian Beachvolley Championship tour, preceding its hosting of a Beach Pro Tour Futures event. The men`s final was a three-set thriller where Seppe De Keyser and Jente De Keyser achieved a 2-1 (17-21, 23-21, 15-9) comeback victory over Casper Willems and Arne Darras to take the top spot. Pieter Winters and Timo De Gaspari secured third place with a dominant 2-0 (21-10, 21-4) win against second-seeded Alexy Humblet and Hugo Fischer.

In the women`s final, second-seeded Youna Coens and Sarah Cools triumphed in a 2-1 (15-21, 21-19, 15-9) battle against Britt Ruysschaert and Isabel Van den Broeck. For the bronze medal, Jade Van Deun and Lotte De Clercq pulled off a 2-1 (15-21, 21-18, 15-10) upset against third-seeded Simone Vervloet and Lente Thant.

Bulgaria

At the Byala stop on the Bulgarian National Beach Volleyball Tour, second-seeded Eleonora Gicheva and Darina Kindova emerged victorious in a hard-fought three-set women`s final, defeating third-seeded Irena Mishonova and Desislava Nikolova 2-1 (21-16, 16-21, 15-13). Elitsa Hristova and Antoniya Nikolova claimed the bronze after a swift 2-0 (21-12, 21-19) win in the third-place match against Stefani Kyoseva and Veronika Ivanova.

The top-seeded men`s duo, Dimitar Kalchev and Dimitar Mehandzhiyski, lived up to expectations, securing the gold medal with a resounding 2-0 (21-12, 21-11) victory over Martin Yochev and Denislav Dimitrov. The bronze medal match was a three-set contest, ending 2-1 (21-19, 16-21, 15-9) in favor of Hristiyan Velikov and Stefan Vartigov against Ivelin Iliev and Boris Georgiev.

Estonia

Estonia`s Rannavolle Suvetuur in Kloogaranna saw bracket leaders Mart Tiisaar and Dimitriy Korotkov dominate the men`s competition, sweeping the final 2-0 (21-17, 21-12) against second-seeded Urmas Piik and Sander Steinberg. The bronze medal was awarded to Siim Ennemuist and Karl Maidle, who secured a dramatic 2-0 (21-19, 29-27) victory over Patrik Parijogi and Armin Kender in the third-place game.

In the women`s event, second-seeded Sara Sinisalo and Anniina Muukka of Finland captured the crown after a tough 2-1 (19-21, 21-17, 17-15) upset of top-seeded Liisa-Lotta Jurgenson and Eva Liisa Kuivonen. The bronze medal match also provided a three-set drama, with Keira Liina Lukas and Sandra Lepp emerging victorious 2-1 (21-19, 13-21, 16-14) against third-seeded Latvians Marta Vildere and Amanda Regute.

France

The France Beach Volley Series in Villeneuve sur Lot saw top-seeded Elsa Descamps and Romane Sobezalz claim the women`s trophy with a decisive 2-0 (21-13, 21-14) victory in the final. Third-seeded Ophelie Lusson and Alex Merle took silver, while Saofe Duval and Marilu Pally secured the bronze after a 2-1 (21-17, 15-21, 15-12) win against Anna Romero Saldarriaga and Claudia Santisteban in the third-place game.

In the men`s final, Liam Patte and Tom Altwies delivered a 2-0 (21-17, 21-17) upset over top-seeded Charly Samier and Enzo Tomietto. Third-seeded Keran Duval and Jules Bihouee also caused an upset, defeating second-seeded Noubet Ngatoum and Nicolas De Swetschin 2-1 (18-21, 21-18, 15-12) to earn the bronze.

Germany

Munich`s enthusiastic fans witnessed top-seeded Paul Henning and Lui Wust secure a close 2-0 (21-18, 22-20) victory over second-seeded Benedikt Sagstetter and Jonas Sagstetter in the men`s final of the German Beach Tour. Third-seeded Momme Lorenz and Tilo Rietschel, along with qualifiers Tamo Wust and Tristan Frobel, who lost in the semifinals, shared third place in the final standings.

The women`s gold medal match was even tighter, with second-seeded Lea Kunst and Melanie Paul achieving a 2-0 (21-19, 23-21) upset against bracket leaders Sandra Ittlinger and Anna-Lena Grune. Anna Behlen and Sarah Schulz, and qualifiers Nele Barber and Melanie Gernert, jointly finished in third place.

Hungary

The women`s final at the Tata stop on the Telekom Beach Volleyball Hungarian Championship tour was decided by two sets won by the narrowest of margins. Top-seeded Stefania Kun and Lilla Villam triumphed with a 2-0 (25-23, 21-19) victory over second-seeded Chiara Honti-Majoros and Adrienn Posztos-Szabo. The bronze medal was claimed by third-seeded Hanna Gubik and Eszter Nagy in a similar fashion, winning 2-0 (21-19, 21-19) in the third-place match against Tamara Streli and Alma Matkovits.

Artur Hajos and Lukas Niemeier delivered a 2-0 (21-18, 21-17) upset over second-seeded Akos Veress and Bence Tari in the men`s final. Balazs Ferenc Fazekas and Matyas Papp took the bronze after a 2-0 (21-16, 21-15) sweep of the third-place game against qualifiers Vilmos Szabo and Marcell Mikulass.

Italy

Third-seeded Manuel Alfieri and Alex Ranghieri clinched the men’s gold at the Montesilvano stop on the Fonzies Absolute Italian Beach Volleyball Championship tour, securing a 2-0 (21-15, 21-15) victory over Giacomo Spadoni and Michele Luisetto in the final. Matteo Martino and Simone Podesta earned the bronze with a 2-1 (19-21, 21-16, 15-10) win against Davis Krumins and Marco Caminati.

The women`s final featured the two highest-seeded teams, with bracket leaders Chiara They and Sara Breidenbach celebrating a 2-1 (18-21, 21-15, 15-8) comeback against Alice Gradini and Federica Frasca. In the bronze medal game, Sharin Rottoli and Oriola Shpuza achieved a decisive 2-0 (21-16, 21-14) victory over Jessica Bellero Piccinin and Claudia Puccinelli.

Poland

Przysucha hosted the Poland Cup event on the Orlen Beach Volley Tour. Second-seeded Marta Lodej and Julia Kielak emerged victorious in the women`s podium, defeating Czech qualifiers Karin Zolnercikova and Valerie Dvornikova 2-0 (21-19, 21-18) in the final. Top-seeded Germans Linda Bock and Louisa Lippmann secured the bronze with a 2-0 (21-19, 21-15) sweep of the third-place match against Malgorzata Ciezkowska and Urszula Lunio.

In the men`s final, bracket leaders Jedrzej Brozyniak and Piotr Janiak achieved a 2-0 (21-16, 21-15) shutout against Piotr Kantor and Artem Besarab. Latvian qualifiers Ardis Bedritis and Arturs Rinkevics claimed bronze following a 2-0 (21-15, 21-17) victory over second-seeded Aleksander Czachorowski and Filip Lejawa in the third-place playoff.

Romania

The first stop on the 2025 Romanian national tour in Sibiu featured an all-Moldovan men`s final. Egor Dobcis and Maxim Korsakov secured a 2-1 (21-16, 15-21, 15-10) victory over compatriots Maxim Voleanin and Timofei Chisleacov. Second-seeded Radu Mihai Muresan and Andrei Spinu took the bronze after bracket leaders Valentin Hupoiu and Bogdan Bratosin forfeited the third-place match.

Beata Vaida and Francesca Alupei triumphed in the women`s tournament, sweeping the final against top-seeded Ioana Sorina Hododi and Denisa Bianca Popa with a convincing 2-0 (21-12, 21-18). The bronze went to Ana Maria Cristina Armeanu and Ioana Andreea Miu, who battled to a 2-1 (21-17, 19-21, 15-11) win over Moldova’s Ana Nicolaev and Inessa Staver in the duel for third place.

Slovakia

Slovenia’s Tajda Lovsin and Ziva Javornik celebrated the women’s gold at the Bratislava stop on Slovakia’s 2025 Nike Summer Beach Tour. Living up to their top-seed status, they delivered an emphatic 2-0 (21-9, 21-17) victory over second-seeded Barbora Tokosova and Martina Terenova in the final. The bronze medal playoff was a three-set 2-1 (18-21, 22-20, 15-10) battle, won by third-seeded Eva Elekova and Andrea Bundzelova against Andrea Spevarova and Lesia Slezakova.

Czechia’s Martin Melmuka and Martin Pihera, seeded second in the men’s main draw, topped the podium after a 2-1 (21-17, 19-21, 15-13) victory over Marek Ludha and Michal Trubac in the gold medal showdown. Another Czech duo, Jakub Vala and Jiri Dostal, completed the podium, securing a 2-0 (21-19, 21-13) win over Igor Horvath and Simon Cervenak in the bronze medal game.
