FIVB President Visits Philippines Ahead of Historic Volleyball Men’s World Championship

FIVB President Fabio Azevedo recently visited the Philippines for discussions with local officials and stakeholders in preparation for a significant upcoming event. His stop was en route to the Mini Pacific Games in Palau.

This visit coincides with the Philippines` preparations to host the FIVB Volleyball Men`s World Championship from September 12 to 28. This marks the first time the country will host the prestigious tournament and only the second time it has been held in Asia. With 71 days remaining, excitement is growing for this major global volleyball competition.

The upcoming World Championship will feature an expanded format, growing from 24 to 32 teams, and is the first under a new two-year cycle. The matches are scheduled to take place at two main venues in Manila: the Smart Araneta Coliseum and the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

During his time in the region, President Azevedo, accompanied by Volleyball World Chief Business Officer Guido Betti, met with local partners and reviewed the progress of preparations for this significant tournament. AVC President Ramon Suzara also participated in the visit.

This event will be the largest and most globally representative in the tournament`s history. Furthermore, we are making history in a nation deeply passionate about our sport. I am pleased to have met with local officials and witnessed the dedication towards organizing an outstanding event at two premier venues.”

Having been granted hosting rights in 2024, the Philippines has demonstrated significant commitment and enthusiasm, including strong government backing, to ensure the tournament is unforgettable.
