Isabelle Haak`s legendary status continues to expand, both on the volleyball court and in her native country. Her remarkable career achievements are now permanently immortalized in the landscape of her hometown.
On Sunday, September 7, an impressive mural depicting Isabelle “Bella” Haak was completed and publicly unveiled in Ängelholm. This magnificent artwork, painted on a prominent building near the city park by the internationally acclaimed street artist Zabou, was presented at a public ceremony. The event was attended by local officials and representatives from the Swedish Volleyball Federation, marking a significant moment for the community.
Haak, currently in Italy preparing for the new season with Imoco Volley Conegliano, shared her thoughts via video message: “Initially, I didn`t quite grasp the significance of being portrayed like this, but then I felt so happy. It truly felt like a great honor. Now, seeing the mural, it feels genuinely special.”
Artist Zabou commented on her artistic vision: “I really love this image of Isabelle. She looks confident and gazes forward, perhaps toward the future. It was a beautiful expression to portray.”
Ängelholm Municipality, which initiated the project in collaboration with the property company Melin Fastigheter, regards the mural as a profound public tribute to Haak. Officials characterized the artwork as “a symbol of the power of daring to dream big, working hard, and remaining humble despite a spike reach of over 3.20 meters.” Furthermore, it was highlighted as “a symbol of women`s sports in Ängelholm,” celebrating female athletic prowess and inspiration.
The municipality proudly emphasized that no Swedish volleyball player had previously received such a distinguished honor. They described Haak not only as a global volleyball superstar but also as a dedicated ambassador for her hometown, a place where the local club EVS has meticulously fostered strong volleyball traditions over the years.
The mural`s unveiling coincided closely with the Swedish women`s national team`s debut in the FIVB Women`s Volleyball World Championship held in Thailand. During this prestigious tournament, Haak showcased her exceptional talent, emerging as the top scorer and best attacker after the group stage. She accumulated an impressive 95 points across just three matches, including 39 points against Egypt, 31 against the Netherlands, and 25 against host Thailand. Her formidable performance also included five aces and five crucial kill blocks.
Earlier that summer, Ängelholm had already demonstrated its strong connection to volleyball by hosting the CEV Golden League Final Four at the Catena Arena. This event drew record crowds, who passionately gathered to support the Swedish women`s national team over two consecutive days, highlighting the city`s vibrant sports culture.
Plans for the commemorative mural were initially announced during the Golden League, when Haak made a public appearance alongside city leaders at a press conference. At that time, officials articulated that the project`s core objectives were to celebrate her significant achievements, elevate the profile of women`s sports, and inspire future generations of athletes in Ängelholm and beyond.
