The highly anticipated exhibition match between Asian volleyball titans Thailand and China took place in Bangkok on Tuesday. This friendly encounter was crucial for both national teams to fine-tune their strategies and readiness for the upcoming 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women`s World Championship, which is set to begin this Friday, generating considerable buzz in the host nation.

Preceded by celebratory ceremonies acknowledging both nations, the match saw China emerge victorious with a dominant 3-0 sweep (25-22, 25-22, 25-18). To further engage the large crowd at Hua Mak Indoor Stadium, an additional fourth set was played, featuring mixed teams composed of players from both squads.

Beyond securing the win, China celebrated the significant return of their acclaimed outside hitter, Li Yingying. The 25-year-old left-handed attacker, who was absent during the 2025 Volleyball Nations League, demonstrated her readiness for the World Championship by starting the match against Thailand. Head coach Zhao Yong also integrated middle blocker Gao Yi, another player who missed the VNL.

Thailand deployed their full complement of key players for the friendly, including prominent setter Pornpun Guedpard, formidable opposite Pimpichaya Kokram, and skilled outside hitters Ajcharaporn Kongyot and Chatchu-On Moksri.

Thai middle blocker Thatdao Nuekjang commented on the match`s value, stating, “This was an excellent chance for us to evaluate our playing system and identify areas for improvement before the tournament begins. With the first match just two days away, we are committed to applying today’s lessons to enhance our performance.”
