Snow Volleyball
Malå, a small inland village located approximately 800 km north of Sweden`s capital, Stockholm, is buzzing with anticipation. As the days lengthen and the winter weather becomes increasingly pleasant, the Tjamstan alpine resort is set to host the COOP SnowVolley Cup once again. Building on the success of last year, the event will utilize four courts, with the venue being enhanced to offer a more functional and welcoming experience for spectators.
The tournament has grown significantly and now features three distinct categories: mixed, senior/corporate/youth, and a mixed snow-level category. Around 20 teams from various parts of northern Sweden are expected to participate. The rules have been adapted to suit the tournament format. Notably, the youth snow-level event for 10-12 year olds is inspired by the Swedish Volleyball Federation’s multi-level game system, requiring players to make three touches per side but uniquely allowing them to catch and throw the ball on the second contact.
The concept for organizing this Snow Volleyball tournament was first discussed over four years ago but was put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic. The plans were successfully revived last year by leader Johan Grensell, with significant backing from local sponsors, the community, and sports federations including the CEV. Malå IF organizes the event with the goals of promoting the sport, raising funds for children`s and youth activities, and bringing vibrancy to the community. Numerous individuals and local organizations are actively involved. The COOP SnowVolley Cup 2024 is proudly hosted by volunteers from Malå IF in partnership with COOP Malå and the Tjamstan alpine resort.
The primary objective is to make this year’s event surpass the successful premiere run in 2023 and to support the club’s ongoing development in the coming years.
