Martinez Shines with 41 Points in Cuba’s U21 Clash with Czechia

At the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship, Daniel Guillermo Martinez Campos delivered a phenomenal performance, scoring 41 points. However, his efforts could not secure a victory for Cuba against Czechia in a hard-fought five-set match. The 19-year-old, 7-foot opposite hitter, on Friday, recorded 33 kills and served 8 aces, setting a tournament record for the highest single-game point total at that time. His relentless scoring kept Cuba competitive until the very last set.

The day before, Martinez had already amassed 24 points against Bulgaria. In the match against Czechia, he took on an even greater load, breaking through the opponent`s defense which had no consistent answer to his power and serves. Despite the loss, Martinez accounted for nearly half of Cuba`s total points, cementing his status as the team`s primary offensive weapon and one of the championship`s most prominent participants.

With 65 points across his first two matches, Martinez has quickly emerged as one of the standout players in Jiangmen. His 41-point performance, even in a losing effort, will be remembered as one of the defining moments of the U21 World Championship.
