Anders Mol and Christian Sørum successfully defended the title they won in Hamburg in 2024.
Hamburg has once again proven to be a highly successful venue for Norwegian beach volleyball sensations Anders Mol and Christian Sørum. On Sunday, the “Beach Volley Vikings” clinched their third gold medal in the German city, triumphing at the seventh Elite event of the 2025 Beach Pro Tour. The Tokyo 2020 Olympic champions arrived with the clear goal of defending their previous year`s title, a feat they impressively achieved at the Am Rothenbaum Stadium. They were joined on the podium by silver medalists Michal Bryl and Bartosz Łosiak of Poland, and bronze medalists Stefan Boermans and Yorick de Groot from the Netherlands.
The formidable Norwegian duo maintained an undefeated record throughout their six matches in Hamburg. In the final, they faced Bryl and Łosiak for the second time in two days, replicating their earlier victory from the Round of 12 on Saturday. Mol and Sørum secured the title with a dominant 2-0 win (25-23, 21-14).
This latest triumph further solidifies Mol and Sørum`s status as the most successful team in Hamburg. The city has hosted eight international tournaments since 2016, and the Beach Volley Vikings have medaled in five of them, securing gold in 2018, 2024, and 2025, and earning bronze at the 2019 World Championship and in 2023. This victory also concludes an exceptional August for the Norwegians, who won 17 out of their 18 matches over the past month, capturing gold at both the Montréal and Hamburg Elite events, as well as the European Championship.
“It’s amazing to win another tournament here in Hamburg,” Sørum shared. “It was a true team effort. We have a big team behind us working many hours a day for us to perform. Poland played amazingly all tournament, it feels great to beat them and win gold again here in Hamburg.”
Dutch Duo Secures Second Consecutive Bronze Medal
Two hours prior to the gold medal match, Stefan Boermans and Yorick de Groot of the Netherlands defeated Latvians Martins Plavins and Kristians Fokerots in straight sets (21-16, 21-10) to claim the bronze medal. This marked a repeat of their third-place finish in Hamburg from the previous year.
This bronze represents the fourth medal for the Dutch pair in just five Beach Pro Tour Elite events this season, having previously won gold in Brasília and bronze in Saquarema, Gstaad, and Hamburg. Reflecting on their success, de Groot stated, “Our side out has been pretty solid this season, and we’ve been able to combine it with good blocking, good serving, and some digs here and there. But the most important thing is that we always keep fighting and trying to battle our way back into matches, and luckily for us, it has led us to winning four medals in five events so far.”
