France began their 2025 FIVB Women`s Volleyball World Championship journey in Thailand successfully, securing a four-set victory against Puerto Rico in their inaugural Pool C match held in Chiang Mai.

Marking their return to a Women`s World Championship after a 51-year hiatus, France celebrated with a dominant 3-1 (25-22, 25-18, 21-25, 25-14) triumph over their NORCECA rivals. They outperformed Puerto Rico in nearly all scoring categories, with unforced errors being the sole exception.

Iman Ndiaye, playing as an opposite hitter, was the top scorer with an impressive 22 points, including five of France`s seven aces and two kill blocks. Captain and outside hitter Helena Cazaute contributed significantly with 21 points, including one ace. Middle blocker Amandha Sylves also made a strong impact, registering five of the team`s total 12 kill blocks.

“Simply participating in the World Championship is a huge achievement for us, given the long period since France last competed. Starting with a victory was incredibly important,” Sylves remarked to VBTV post-match. She added, “Blocking definitely feels great! As middle blockers, we don`t spike often, so blocking is crucial. It`s how I contribute to the team, and I`m pleased with that.”

For Puerto Rico, outside hitter Valeria Vazquez led the scoring with 12 points, closely followed by 15-year-old rising star Decelise Champion, who added 11 points as an opposite hitter.

Later on Friday, the 2022 silver medalists Brazil are set to face Greece in the second Pool C match, scheduled for 19:30 local time (12:30 UTC).
