The 2025 Beach Pro Tour calendar has been updated with the confirmation of a Challenge event in Veracruz, Mexico, and an Elite stop in Itapema, Brazil. The Brazilian tournament replaces the previously scheduled Doha Elite event.
Brazil`s George Wanderley, alongside Andre Stein, previously dominated the men`s world-level tournaments held in Itapema, securing three consecutive victories.
Veracruz Challenge: A Crucial Path to World Championships
Veracruz, Mexico, is set to host a significant Challenge event from October 1 to 5, serving as the year`s second Mexican Challenge stop. This tournament is particularly important as it will be the final opportunity for players to earn qualification points for the 2025 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Adelaide. The competition will feature up to 32 teams per gender in the qualification phase, with an equal number progressing to the main draw, all competing for a substantial total prize money of USD 250,000.
This event on the beautiful Gulf of Mexico coast marks Mexico`s third overall appearance on the Beach Pro Tour in 2025, following the Yucatan Challenge in Puerto Progresso and the Quintana Roo Elite in Playa del Carmen, both held in March. Mexico has a strong track record of hosting premier beach volleyball events, including past Challenge stops in Tlaxcala, La Paz, and Guadalajara, along with Elite16 tournaments in Rosarito and Tepic. The nation also successfully organized the most recent FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in 2023, showcasing its dedication and capability in the sport.
Itapema Elite: Brazil`s Premier Beach Volleyball Showcase
The Beach Pro Tour is making a highly anticipated return to Itapema, Brazil, with an Elite category tournament scheduled from December 3 to 7. This marks the city’s first time hosting a world-level beach volleyball event since April 2023, when it last welcomed a Challenge event. Itapema has a rich history in the sport, having previously hosted three four-star stops on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour in 2018, 2019, and 2021. This year’s Elite event promises intense competition, with 16 teams per gender in the qualification brackets and 24 in the main draw, all vying for a significant total prize purse of USD 400,000.
The Itapema Elite will be Brazil`s fifth Elite stop on the Beach Pro Tour in 2025, complementing earlier successful events held in Saquarema and Brasilia in April, and forthcoming tournaments in Joao Pessoa and Rio de Janeiro in September. This extensive schedule underlines Brazil`s crucial role as a hub for international beach volleyball, consistently hosting top-tier competitions.
