Panionios Makes History: Claims First Greek Women’s Volleyball Cup Title

Panionios Betsson etched their name into history, securing their inaugural Women’s Greek Cup title with a decisive 3-1 victory over AO Thiras in the Final Four tournament.

In a captivating match lasting 114 minutes, held before a packed crowd at the “Tasos Kampouris” indoor arena, the Nea Smyrni squad triumphed with set scores of 25-17, 25-15, 25-27, and 25-20.

Leading Panionios’ scoring charge was Polina Rahimova with an impressive 19 points, supported by Elitsa Vasileva Atanasijevic who contributed 17, and Bianka Risticevic with 14. On the AO Thiras side, Rica Maase also registered 19 points, Katarina Pavicic notched 15, and Anastasía Shirínina scored 11.

A decisive element in Panionios’ success was their dominant net play, evidenced by their formidable 22 blocks throughout the match, significantly outperforming AO Thiras’ eight.

Panionios’ libero, Maria-Aikaterini Xanthopoulou, earned the Most Valuable Player award for the final, recognized for her exceptional defensive prowess.
