From May 23 to October 11, 2026, the MA*GA Museum in Gallarate (VA) will host a significant exhibition dedicated to Paolo Scheggi (1940-1971). Recognized as a pivotal figure in 1960s international experimental art, an heir to Spatialism, and a pioneer of monochrome and objectual painting, Scheggi’s groundbreaking work will be the focus of this major retrospective.
The exhibition, titled “Qui e altrove. GLI AMBIENTI DI PAOLO SCHEGGI 1964 – 1971”, is curated by Emma Zanella, director of MA*GA, and Ilaria Bignotti, scientific curator of the Scheggi Archive. Realized in collaboration with the Associazione Paolo Scheggi, which has provided the showcased artworks, as well as literary and iconographic documents, the event also celebrates a monumental achievement: the entry of Scheggi’s masterpiece, “Struttura modulare” (1967), into MA*GA’s permanent collections. This prestigious acquisition was made possible through a successful bid in the PAC-Piano per l’Arte Contemporanea 2025 program, an initiative of the Directorate General for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture.
Running concurrently with a related initiative focusing on Vincenzo Agnetti, the MA*GA exhibition delves into a core and fundamental aspect of Scheggi’s artistic inquiry: the integration of sculptural forms with architecture. It specifically explores his visionary concepts for “liveable and explorable environments,” developed between 1964 and his untimely death in 1971.
