Northern Ireland Volleyball extends a heartfelt tribute to Paul McIlwaine, who is stepping down from his role as Schools Director after three decades of dedicated service. A renowned figure within the Northern Irish Volleyball community, Paul has been integral to every facet of the organization. His unwavering commitment has inspired countless new players and fortified the crucial network of schools and clubs that form the backbone of the sport.

`Dr
Dr. Ian Walker, a fellow member of the schools commission, presents Paul McIlwaine with a commemorative gift recognizing his profound involvement in the sport.

Jonathan McFadden, President of NI Volleyball, reflected on McIlwaine`s vast contribution: “For the past 30 years, Paul has been far more than just a coach, official, or organizer; he has been the driving force behind the sport`s widespread growth and development across the country. His deep-seated passion for Volleyball in Northern Ireland stems not only from his love for the game itself but also for the strong community it fosters. Throughout these decades, he has served in numerous capacities—coach, referee, mentor, board member (including a term as President), and a trusted friend. Whether actively on the court or working diligently behind the scenes, Paul has poured his time, energy, and heart into Volleyball with an unmatched level of dedication.”

McFadden continued to highlight McIlwaine`s impact: “His enthusiasm has been pivotal in shaping grassroots programs, motivating young athletes, and elevating the competitive standards of Volleyball in Northern Ireland. He played a crucial role in organizing tournaments, supporting schools and clubs, and ensuring the sport remains inclusive, accessible, and vibrant for all. We are immensely grateful for his efforts. He will be greatly missed by the Northern Ireland schools commission, having overseen an incredible expansion from just one annual competition to twelve this past season, engaging over 1,000 participants—truly remarkable growth. His steady leadership, calm demeanor, and relentless advocacy have created lasting positive impacts that will benefit generations of players. Thank you, Paul, for 30 extraordinary years. Northern Ireland Volleyball is undeniably larger, stronger, and more unified thanks to dedicated volunteers like you, and we wish you all the best for your future endeavors.”

Paul`s departure marks the close of a remarkable chapter, yet his profound legacy will endure through the thousands of young individuals who discovered their passion for Volleyball under his guidance, encouragement, and leadership. While stepping down from his administrative role, Paul will not be entirely absent from the volleyball courts, having recently achieved his International Volleyball FIVB Level 2 Coaching Award.
