Poland and Türkiye, recognized as leaders in the FIVB World Ranking, have successfully secured their spots in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Men`s Volleyball World Championship. Both teams extended their unbeaten streaks to four matches, showcasing dominant performances in the Round of 16.
Türkiye`s Historic Achievement
The Turkish national team made history by reaching the quarterfinals of the FIVB Men`s Volleyball World Championship for the first time ever. After topping Pool G with a maximum of 9 points, Türkiye achieved a hard-fought comeback victory against the Netherlands with a score of 3:1 (27-29, 25-23, 25-19, 25-19) in their Round of 16 clash in Pasay City.
Despite dropping the opening set in a tight contest, the Turkish squad remained resolute. They rallied to even the score in the second set after a determined effort. Subsequently, Türkiye completely dominated the third set. In the fourth set, three aces from Efe Mandiraci propelled the Turks to a 4-0 run, establishing a lead they held until the end. Mandiraci ultimately delivered the match-winning point, securing their historic advancement.
Poland`s Strong Progress
The Polish national team, current champions of the Volleyball Nations League, also demonstrated their formidable strength. They finished first in Pool B with 9 points, and then confidently defeated Canada 3:1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-18, 25-14) in their Round of 16 encounter.
As finalists in the previous three championships, Poland maintained control for most of the match, effectively capitalizing on Canadian errors. The North Americans only managed to break Polish dominance and win the second set. However, Poland quickly reasserted control to finish the match in their favor, securing their place in the quarterfinals.
Upcoming Quarterfinal and Round of 16 Matches
Türkiye and Poland are now set to face each other in the first quarterfinal match on Wednesday, vying for a coveted spot in the semifinals.
Additionally, two other Round of 16 matches are scheduled for Sunday in Pasay City: a highly anticipated showdown between Argentina and Italy (15:30 local time / 07:30 UTC), followed by the unbeaten “Red Dragons” of Belgium competing against Finland (20:00 local time / 12:00 UTC).
