USA 1 – 3 Türkiye (14-25, 25-22, 14-25, 23-25)

Türkiye reached a historic milestone at the 2025 FIVB Women’s World Championship in Bangkok, securing their inaugural semifinal berth by decisively defeating the United States 3–0.

Known as the “Sultans of the Net” and currently reigning European champions, Türkiye maintained their impeccable performance throughout the tournament in Thailand. They advanced to the quarterfinals without conceding a single set, achieving clean sweeps against Egypt, Thailand, and Canada in pool play, followed by a convincing 3–0 win over Slovenia (30–28, 25–13, 29–27) in the Round of 16.

Despite their world ranking of fifth, Türkiye entered the match against the USA as the underdogs. The American team, current Olympic gold medalists and Paris 2024 champions, arrived undefeated after a dominant Round-of-16 victory over Canada. However, Türkiye drew strength from their recent 2025 Volleyball Nations League semifinal triumph over the USA, channeling that momentum into their quarterfinals performance.

On the court, Türkiye`s star players rose to the occasion. Outside hitter Ebrar Karakurt delivered her standout performance of the World Championship against the Americans, leading her team with an impressive 23 points (20 kills, three blocks). Opposite hitter Melissa Vargas also shined with 21 points (18 kills, 3 serves), while captain and middle blocker Eda Erdem Dündar contributed 13 points (6 spikes, 7 blocks), including the crucial point that sealed the match victory.

Following this monumental win, Türkiye now prepares to face Japan in the semifinals, with the winner of the Netherlands vs. Japan quarterfinal awaiting them for a place in the championship final.

Brazil 3 – 0 France (27-25, 33-31, 25-19)

The 2025 FIVB Women’s World Championship semifinals are primed for an electrifying encounter as Brazil prepares to challenge Italy in Bangkok. This highly anticipated match unites two of volleyball`s global powerhouses, each boasting remarkable winning streaks and a storied history in the sport.

Brazil secured their spot in the semifinals with a decisive 3–0 victory over France in the quarterfinals. Their performance was marked by unwavering determination and clinical efficiency, as they dispatched France in straight sets: 27–25, 33–31, 25–19, earning their ticket to face Italy. The second set, a grueling 38-minute marathon, saw Brazil eventually gain the upper hand and solidify their control in the third set. Key veteran players stepped up when it mattered most: outside hitter Julia Bergmann led Brazil with 17 points, captain Gabi Guimarães added 13, and Rosamaria Montibeller contributed 12, showcasing Brazil’s deep roster and calm under pressure. For France, Héléna Cazaute valiantly led her team with 20 points, supported by Iman Ndiaye’s 15, but their commendable efforts ultimately proved insufficient against Brazil’s consistent and experienced play.

Italy, Brazil’s next formidable opponent, advanced to the semifinals with an equally impressive run, sweeping past both Germany and Poland without dropping a single set. Under the guidance of coach Julio Velasco, the “Azzurre” have demonstrated exceptional sharpness and consistency, with star players such as Paola Egonu, Anna Danesi, and Monica De Gennaro playing crucial roles. Italy’s squad is a balanced blend of seasoned leaders and promising young talent, combining formidable power with strategic depth.

This semifinal carries additional significance due to the intense recent rivalry between these two volleyball titans. Italy previously triumphed over Brazil in a thrilling four-set final at the 2025 Volleyball Nations League, capturing the gold and proving their capability to challenge the South American powerhouse. However, when it comes to the World Championship stage, Brazil historically holds an advantage, having won all five of their prior semifinal encounters.

As both teams gear up for another confrontation, the match is poised to be a tactical and emotionally charged battle. Brazil will aim to capitalize on their extensive experience and unwavering consistency, while Italy will seek to replicate their VNL success and secure a spot in the final for the first time since 2018.

The upcoming semifinal promises not only elite-level volleyball but also a captivating clash of playing philosophies: Brazil’s composed resilience against Italy’s aggressive, high-octane style. Fans can anticipate an exhilarating spectacle when these two giants meet in Bangkok.
