Sajeewa Medawatte has been elected as the new President of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation. This significant leadership change followed a series of elections held on May 31, 2025, at the National Olympic Committee Auditorium in Colombo, marking a pivotal moment for the development of volleyball in the country.
In conjunction with Medawatte’s appointment, a new Executive Committee was also constituted, tasked with serving a two-year term. Akhila de Alwis was elected General Secretary, and will play a crucial role in collaborating with the President to steer the Federation’s strategic direction, administrative functions, and overall operational initiatives.
Key Officials Appointed to the New Executive Committee:
The recently elected committee introduces a robust team comprising Vice Presidents, Assistant Secretaries, and other essential functionaries:
- Vice Presidents: The six individuals appointed to this critical role are Chandan Wijesinghe, Bandara Herath, K. P. M. Kariyawasam, Ashoka Ambanpola, S. M. A. N. I. Sambandapperuma, and Chaminda Lakshman. They are expected to oversee various facets of the Federation`s diverse activities and programs.
- Assistant Secretaries: Kanthasiri Meegamuwa, Kapila Wijemanna, and S.S.N.K. Fernando were chosen to support the secretarial duties.
- Treasurer: G. D. T. S. Perera was elected to manage the financial affairs of the Federation.
- Chief Organiser: Danapala Jayapathma will assume responsibility for coordinating events, competitions, and logistical planning.
- Ground Secretary: Capt. K. R. K. T. Malinda has been tasked with the management of sports facilities and venues.
The full roster of the Executive Committee is further strengthened by the inclusion of Ajith Nettasinghe, Aruna Shantha, Deepal Ekanayaka, Lalith Priyantha, Wimal Amarasinghe, A. Ravivarman, Sajith Nandasiri, Krishnapillai Manoharan, Ramani Kulathilake, S.N.S. Kithsiris, and Renuka Nilmini. This diverse group is anticipated to inject fresh energy and innovative perspectives into the advancement and promotion of volleyball throughout Sri Lanka.
