SVG Lüneburg Reaches CEV Cup Semi-Finals with 3–1 Win in Poitiers

SVG Lüneburg has secured a coveted spot in the CEV Cup semi-finals, overcoming Alterna SPVB Poitiers with a hard-fought 3-1 (29–27, 19–25, 26–24, 26–24) victory in the quarterfinal second leg.

The match, played before 1,892 enthusiastic fans in Poitiers, was incredibly close, culminating in an equal 100–100 total points for both sides, highlighting the intense competition.

The first set saw Lüneburg narrowly win 29–27 after extended play. Poitiers quickly retaliated in the second, with powerful attacks from Kevin Kobrines and Simon Magnin leading them to a 25–19 win, leveling the contest.

The pivotal third set swung in Lüneburg’s favor. Facing a late 22–24 deficit, they staged a remarkable comeback, spearheaded by Ethan Champlin’s critical serving run. This surge turned the tide, securing a 26–24 victory and the two sets necessary for their advancement. Even with qualification confirmed, the German team maintained their momentum, clinching the fourth set 26–24.

Thomas Pujol of Poitiers was the game’s highest scorer with 17 points, while Axel Enlund led Lüneburg with 15 points. Setter Santeri Välimaa earned the MVP award for his outstanding performance.

Lüneburg now awaits their semi-final opponent, who will be determined by the outcome of the quarterfinal clash between Greenyard Maaseik and Galatasaray HDI Istanbul.
