The league stage of the CEV Volleyball European Silver League 2025 Women has now concluded. A dramatic tournament held last weekend in Amstetten, Austria, determined the two finalists: Switzerland and Latvia.
The three teams still vying for the two available spots in the final – Switzerland, Latvia, and Austria – competed in Amstetten. The tournament began with a hard-fought match where Austria secured a 3:2 victory against Latvia.
Austria took control early, winning the first two sets (25:16, 25:23), needing only one more set to earn maximum points from the match. However, Latvia staged a comeback, winning the subsequent two sets (25:19, 25:19) to push the match to a decisive fifth set, which Austria ultimately won 15:9.
Despite Marta Levinska`s impressive 27 points for Latvia in that match, the Baltic side faced another defeat in their next game. Switzerland secured a decisive 3:0 win (25:19, 25:18, 25:23), powered by Julie Lengweiler and Tabea Eichler, who combined for 29 points.
Switzerland completed their undefeated league campaign by clinching their sixth win in six matches with another dominant 3:0 victory (25:19, 25:16, 25:18) against Austria. Eichler and Leingweiler were once again key figures, contributing 30 of the team`s 75 points.
Both Latvia and Austria finished behind undefeated Switzerland with identical records of four wins and two losses. However, Latvia accumulated 13 points compared to Austria`s 12, securing the second spot in the pool standings. These two teams will now meet in the final, which will be played over two legs. The first leg is scheduled for June 26, with Switzerland hosting the second leg on June 29.
The final standings in the Women`s Silver League pool were completed by Israel (4-2), Georgia (3-3), Iceland (3-3), North Macedonia (2-4), Luxembourg (1-5), and the Faroe Islands (0-6).
The second week of the CEV Volleyball European Silver League 2025 Men`s competition also took place, with tournaments hosted in Kópavogur and Baku.
Sweden currently stands as the only team with a perfect record, having not dropped a single set in their first four matches. This week, they delivered convincing wins against the Faroe Islands (25:17, 25:15, 25:13) and Iceland (25:7, 25:11, 25:17).
Luxembourg is in second place, having defeated Azerbaijan 3:0 but losing their match against Hungary 0:3. Hungary also maintains a perfect record of two wins from two matches before facing Iceland and Georgia this week. Sweden will return to action next week with matches scheduled against Hungary and Austria.
