The Next Big Thing in Volleyball: Federico Crosato

Often dubbed “Padova`s new jewel” by the Italian press, 20-year-old Federico Crosato is a standout talent from Italy`s promising new generation. He is currently excelling in the Italian Superlega this season, holding the 10th spot in the Best Middle Blockers rankings with 74 points, closely behind Dragan Stankovic (75 points).

In the summer of 2022, Crosato celebrated victory with his teammates from the Italy U22 squad, winning the inaugural #EuroVolleyU22M title. This adds to his impressive collection of trophies; he was also a U21 World Champion in 2021 and a U19 World Champion in 2019. Standing at 200 cm tall, Federico, a native of Treviso, prefers to progress steadily, focusing intently on his personal development and growth. These qualities, combined with his natural talent, strongly indicate a bright future. Let`s get to know him, as he is indeed poised to be a major force in the volleyball world.

The Beginning

Before dedicating himself to volleyball, Federico initially tried tennis. However, he admits with a smile that he wasn`t particularly skilled with a tennis racket, and destiny eventually led him to volleyball.

After turning 14 and experimenting with various positions common in youth volleyball, Federico began to specialize as a middle blocker.

Going Pro

Realizing he was performing well in volleyball sparked Federico`s consideration of the sport as a potential career path.

The National Team

Along with his teammates from the 2000-2002 age group, Federico has already amassed a remarkable list of achievements. After securing the U21 World Championship in 2021, this talented squad claimed the #EuroVolleyU22M trophy in the competition`s first edition this summer. Crosato participated in five matches, contributing 33 points with a 71% block efficiency.

For Crosato, representing the Italian national team is always a source of immense pride.

I am always happy when I receive a call-up. With my teammates, we see each other as old friends – we play against each other during the season, then we play together for the national team and this is great. The Gold that we won together, together with the other medals in these past years – all this means that we have built something during trainings; it is a recompensation for all the hard work, because you don’t prepare for an European or World championship for two weeks. And in the end, it is nice to bring back home to Italy the medals; to make our families and nation feel proud.

While Crosato dreams of eventually joining the senior men’s team, he maintains a grounded approach, focusing primarily on his immediate goals.

Pallavolo Padova

`The new jewel of Padua`, Federico is currently in his second season with the club. Having joined from Volley Treviso, Federico is thoroughly enjoying this experience.

The atmosphere is very good – the club, the fans, the city. It is a perfect place for me to start my journey in Serie A. I am also quite close to my home, so I have my parents coming to all the games, supporting me. My goals are obviously to keep on growing, developing, learning from more experienced players on the squad.

While concentrating on personal growth, the team’s middle blocker is also committed to helping his teammates achieve their collective objectives.

I want to contribute! Maybe I am young, not that experienced, but I have a lot of energy to give!

Inspiration & The Dream

Federico doesn`t look up to just one player for inspiration.

I don’t have a sort of idol, to say “I want to be just like him!”. I watch many players, I observe their technique, how they behave. The most beautiful things I see, I try to apply them. There are always moments when you see players doing something, and you are like “Wow!”, so you start training even harder to arrive to their level.

Federico Crosato

As for his biggest dream, Crosato simply wants to continue his personal development and growth.

Of course, winning the Scudetto and joining the senior national team are on the list as well.

Outside the Court

Despite having limited free time, Federico makes an effort to spend quality moments with his family and friends.

Federico outside the court is just a normal guy. When I am not training, I am just spending time with the people I love, my family, my friends. In my free time, I go to the sea, to the mountain. I try to be at home, but I also try doing something different. Meanwhile, I focus on my studies as well. As for big passions, I don’t have others besides Volleyball.
