Montpellier HSC VB is making their debut appearance in the CEV Champions League – Men this season, competing against formidable teams like JASTRZEBSKI Wegiel, VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, and Vojvodina NS Seme NOVI SAD. Despite facing losses in their first four matches, the future looks promising for Montpellier, thanks to key players like Théo Faure, who has proven essential to the team`s performance this season.

Faure has participated in all four Champions League games (16 sets played), accumulating an impressive 75 points, averaging 4.69 points per set. This performance positions him 16th in the current Best Scorers rankings and makes him Montpellier’s leading scorer in the competition so far. His strong form extends to the French A League, where he started the season by earning the MVP award in the Supercup match, which Montpellier won against CVB 52. As Montpellier`s top scorer in the domestic league, he has tallied 226 points over 13 games.

It`s time to get acquainted with Théo Faure, as he is widely regarded as potentially being the next major talent in the world of volleyball.

The Beginning

Théo began playing volleyball at age 11, initially with friends, having previously explored other sports. Growing up, volleyball was a family affair.

My parents are Volleyball players, too, and during the holidays, I used to play Beach Volleyball as well.

Turning Professional

An intriguing aspect of Théo`s path is that he played as an outside hitter before signing his first professional contract.

For the 23-year-old Frenchman, the decision to pursue a professional career felt natural, fueled by the passion and emotions experienced during youth tournaments, competing for his team, and securing important victories. He acknowledges that at that stage, the full reality of a professional volleyball career isn`t entirely understood. A significant moment that solidified his choice was joining the training center in Toulouse.

The Champions League Challenge

Faure joined Montpellier in 2021. Competing in the prestigious CEV Champions League this season offers him an invaluable opportunity to gain significant experience.

We are playing against some of the best teams and the best players. It is a very high level competition, and, for sure, it is a great motivation to learn and gain experience for your development as a player. It is really nice, although we lost our four games so far. However, we still have two more at home – against Friedrichshafen and Novi Sad, and our goal is to win these two matches, and to continue ahead in the CEV Cup. We don’t want our European journey to end just yet.

Standing at 196 cm, Faure is currently the team’s top scorer in the Champions League. While his strong individual performance brings a good feeling, he also admits to a degree of frustration due to the team`s results.

The French A League Season

As the reigning French champions, Montpellier had a strong start to the season by winning the Supercup. However, they encountered subsequent challenges.

We got the title last year, we started the season with a win in the Supercup. After that, we had some difficult times with injuries, as it often happens with teams that play in local and European competitions. The goal now is to be among the best teams, and to start the Playoffs in the best position.
