Tunisia’s Yahiya Jemai: A Dynamic Force on Tashkent Courts

On the volleyball court, Yahiya Jemai`s presence is unmistakable. His distinctive look, featuring neon yellow goggles and tightly braided hair, along with his sharp blue jersey layered over black compression sleeves, creates an intense and composed initial impression. However, this calm quickly dissipates once the game begins, revealing his true dynamism.

Jemai expresses his fondness for his unique style, stating, “I have my special and unique look. I really like it.” He emphasizes his full commitment to the game, pouring “all [his] energy, all [his] force, all [his] power” into his performance, hoping to meet expectations despite potential fluctuations in his play.

His striking combination of a composed demeanor and explosive, high-powered play makes him one of the tournament`s most captivating figures, truly embodying a “fire and ice” dynamic on the court.

In a standout performance against African rivals Algeria, Jemai accumulated 21 points, including 18 kills, two aces, and one block, showcasing one of his most comprehensive displays of the tournament.

Reflecting on the challenging encounter with Algeria, he acknowledged them as “a very good team” that “play[s] volleyball very well.” He described the five-set match as “very difficult,” noting that while his team started strong, they lost focus mid-game but ultimately “played volleyball the right way in the end.”

The 17-year-old Jemai, standing at 1.93 meters, serves as an outside hitter for the Tunisian team. The 2025 FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U19 World Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, marks his debut at a global competition.

Jemai`s previous accolades include earning MVP and Best Outside Hitter honors at the 2024 U18 African Nations Championship, where he was instrumental in Tunisia securing the continental title. In Tashkent, he is a key part of the new generation representing Tunisia on the international stage.

He regards this tournament as a valuable learning experience, stating, “It is a good experience for us.” As African champions, he notes this is their “first international competition,” expressing satisfaction with the “infrastructure, the atmosphere, and the competition with the teams.” He concludes, “I am very satisfied, and I hope to participate in other World Championships, in the U21 or senior level.”

With his distinct style, composure, and decisive play, Jemai is clearly demonstrating that his passionate approach and flair can effectively propel Tunisia`s future in volleyball.
