This highly anticipated duel between two unbeaten teams marks the highlight of the third round in Italy`s women`s volleyball regular season.

The 2025-2026 Lega Femminile Serie A1 Tigotà season has seen only four teams remain undefeated after two rounds. Two of these formidable squads, Igor Gorgonzola Novara and Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri `76, are scheduled to meet on Wednesday in what promises to be the most compelling match of the third week in the Italian League.
Wednesday`s schedule features a complete slate of seven matches across the country, with the highly anticipated contest between Novara and Chieri kicking off first at 19:15 local time (17:15 GMT) in Novara.
Novara`s Dominant Start
Novara has demonstrated exceptional form since the outset of the season. They first showcased their prowess by winning the Courmayeur Cup, triumphing over defending champions Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano and Savino Del Bene Scandicci – the other two undefeated teams in the league. Their strong performance continued into the Lega Femminile, where they secured maximum points by defeating Omag-Mt San Giovanni In Marignano and Eurotek Laica UYBA Busto Arsizio in their initial two matches.
“We anticipate a very tough match,” outside hitter Britt Herbots stated. “Chieri is coming off a significant victory against Milano and will undoubtedly be highly motivated. They are a talented team known for their fast-paced play. However, we`ll have the strong backing of our home fans to propel us forward. It will be crucial to maintain composure during difficult moments, push hard when opportunities arise, and be prepared to deliver our best volleyball from the very first serve.”
American middle blocker Amber Igiede, a key offseason acquisition for Novara, has made an impressive start, contributing 29 points in the team`s first two outings. Japanese outside hitter Mayu Ishikawa has also been a pivotal player, accumulating 20 points.
Chieri`s Upset Victory and Key Players
Chieri has already delivered the season`s most significant upset, defeating last year`s finalists, Numia Vero Volley Milano, in a thrilling five-set contest last Sunday. Coupled with their 3-1 away victory against Il Bisonte Firenze on opening day, the team now holds five points in the Italian League standings.
“While our match against Milano wasn`t flawless, it proved our ability to secure wins even when facing challenges,” setter Sarah Van Aalen reflected. “Novara is another exceptionally strong team enjoying an excellent start to their season. If they manage to effectively involve their middle blockers in their offensive strategies, it will pose a significant challenge for us, making strong serving absolutely essential.”
Among Chieri`s new additions, Hungarian opposite Anett Németh stands out as the team`s top scorer this season, with 42 points. World champion outside hitter Stella Nervini has also been remarkably effective, scoring 37 points in the team`s initial two league matches.
Historical Rivalry and Upcoming Matches
Historically, Novara has held the upper hand against Chieri, boasting 16 victories in 24 direct confrontations. Last season alone, the teams faced each other five times in the Italian League, including a playoff quarterfinal, with Novara emerging victorious in three of those matchups.
In another match, Firenze, currently with one win and one loss, will host CBF Balducci HR Macerata at 20:00 (18:00 GMT). Macerata is still searching for their first win since returning to Italy`s top division, having lost their opening two games.
The remaining five fixtures, all commencing at 20:30 (18:30 GMT), include:
Busto Arsizio vs. Bergamo
Bartoccini-Mc Restauri Perugia vs. Wash4Green Monviso Volley
Milano vs. Megabox Ondulati Savio Vallefoglia
Omag vs. Conegliano
Honda Cuneo Granda Volley vs. Scandicci
