With the LA28 Olympic Games approaching in just three years, the LA28 Organizing Committee has released the official schedule and format for the volleyball and beach volleyball competitions. These popular sports are scheduled to be held from July 14th to 30th, 2028, promising exciting events as part of the overall Games program.
As previously disclosed, the beach volleyball tournaments will unfold at Alamitos Beach in Long Beach, an official LA28 venue. This picturesque coastal setting offers a magnificent environment for one of the Olympics` most dynamic and visually appealing sports. Indoor volleyball action will take place at the Anaheim Arena, a leading sports and entertainment facility poised to serve as an excellent Olympic venue for memorable matches.
The beach volleyball schedule kicks off with Preliminary Rounds from Saturday, July 15th, through Saturday, July 22nd. Most days will feature three sessions for both men`s and women`s events, except for July 22nd which has two. The Round of 16 will follow on Sunday, July 23rd, and Monday, July 24th, with four sessions planned for each gender.
Quarter-finals are set for Tuesday, July 25th, and Wednesday, July 26th, including afternoon and evening sessions. The semi-finals for both men and women will be contested on Thursday, July 27th. The quest for gold culminates with the men`s and women`s beach volleyball finals on the evenings of Friday, July 28th, and Saturday, July 29th, respectively.
Indoor volleyball also starts with Preliminary Rounds on Saturday, July 15th, concluding on Sunday, July 23rd. These initial rounds will feature four sessions daily for both the men`s and women`s tournaments.
The quarter-finals for indoor volleyball will span four sessions on Monday, July 24th, and Tuesday, July 25th. Semi-final clashes are scheduled for Wednesday, July 26th, and Thursday, July 27th. Medal matches, including bronze and gold for both genders, will be played from Friday, July 28th, to Sunday, July 30th, with the men`s gold medal game serving as the closing volleyball event for LA28.
This scheduling update comes after volleyball and beach volleyball enjoyed significant success at the recent Olympic Games Paris 2024. The Paris events garnered record global viewership, showcased top-tier athletic talent, and utilized memorable venues, further establishing the sport`s popularity worldwide.
FIVB stated it will maintain close collaboration with the LA28 Organizing Committee to help ensure the volleyball and beach volleyball competitions are a resounding success for the sport globally.
Please note that this schedule is currently provisional and may be subject to adjustments leading up to the 2028 Games, as is standard practice. A more detailed schedule, including the specific order of men`s and women`s matches for each tournament day, is expected to be released by LA28 later this year.
