It's Wednesday, and it's time to dive into some puzzles! Be prepared, Pipsqueaks, as today's puzzles are quite intricate.
Understanding How to Play Pips
Pips is a game played on a grid of colored boxes, each representing a specific condition that must be met. Players use a set number of dominoes to fill the grid, and the goal is to use every domino while satisfying all the stated conditions. The game features Easy, Medium, and Difficult tiers.
Each colored area on the grid has symbols and numbers indicating specific rules. For example, purple squares might have a condition that their values must not be equal (= crossed out), while adjacent pink squares might need to sum to 0. Blue squares with a zig-zag pattern require all values within them to be identical. Dominoes can be rotated to fit the designated spaces.
Other possible conditions include:
- =: All pips in this group must have the same value.
- ≠: All pips in this group must have different values.
- >: The pip value(s) in this tile must be greater than the listed number.
- <: The pip value(s) in this tile must be less than the listed number.
- Exact Number (e.g., 6): The pip value must be exactly this number.
- Blank Spaces: Can contain any value.
To win, all dominoes must be used, and all grid squares must be filled while adhering to every condition. Some puzzles have a single solution, while others may allow for multiple valid solutions.

This Hard Pips puzzle forms a "U" shape. The solution involves some strategic placement, particularly around the two different "6" groups and the dark blue "6" group bordering "0" conditions. The initial assumption is that a lot of "2" pips will be used, and the double in the dark blue "6" group is likely necessary due to its proximity to the "0" conditions.
Step 1
Start by placing the 2/6 domino from Purple 6 into Pink 6. Place the 2/4 domino below it, from Purple 6 into Dark Blue 10. Then, place the 2/3 domino from Purple 6 into Pink =. Finally, place the 6/0 domino from Dark Blue 10 into Orange 0.

Step 2
Next, fill in three doubles consecutively: the 3/3 domino goes into Pink =, the 2/2 domino into the next two slots of Dark Blue 6, and the 0/0 domino above that in Orange 0. Then, place the 2/0 domino from Dark Blue 6 into Purple 0.

Step 3
Now, place the 0/3 domino from Orange 0 up into Blue 9 and the 5/5 domino next to it in Green =. After that, place the 3/5 domino from Blue 9 over into Green =. Finally, place the 3/6 domino from Blue 9 into Orange > 3. This completes the larger "U" shape, and we can now address the smaller "u".

Solution
Complete the puzzle by placing the 0/1 domino from Pink < 2 into Orange 1, followed by the 1/4 domino from Orange 1 into Dark Blue =. The 4/4 domino fits into the next slot, and the 4/6 domino sits above that. The puzzle is now solved!
