Young Women’s Volleyball Teams Ready to Compete in Surabaya

After the recent FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U19 World Championship held in Uzbekistan, attention now shifts to Southeast Asia. Surabaya, Indonesia, is ready to host the world`s premier women`s U21 volleyball teams for the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s U21 World Championship, scheduled from August 7 to 17.

Tournament Teams and Pools

The tournament comprises 24 participating teams, categorized into four pools, each consisting of six nations:

• Pool A: Host nation Indonesia, alongside Argentina, Serbia, Puerto Rico, Canada, and Vietnam.
• Pool B: Reigning champions China, grouped with the USA, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Korea, and Croatia.
• Pool C: The 2023 silver medalists Italy will compete against Türkiye, Egypt, Poland, Algeria, and Czechia.
• Pool D: Made up of Brazil, Japan, Tunisia, Thailand, Chile, and Bulgaria.

Competition Format

Each pool will follow a round-robin system. The top four teams from each group will advance to the Round of 16. Victors from this stage will proceed to the quarterfinals, while those who do not win will compete in playoffs for 9th-16th places. The two lowest-ranked teams from each initial pool will participate in classification matches to determine final standings from 17th to 24th.

All teams will play through a series of final rounds to establish the complete ranking from the first to the 24th position, with the bronze and gold medal matches concluding the event on August 17.

Kick-off in Surabaya

Play commences on Thursday at 10:00 local time (03:00 UTC), with 12 matches scheduled across Surabaya. Host nation Indonesia is set to make its tournament debut against Vietnam in Pool A, concluding the inaugural day`s events at 19:00, cheered on by a home audience.

This marks Indonesia`s first time hosting the Women’s U21 World Championship, a significant event that brings elite international volleyball to Surabaya. It also provides a unique opportunity for the national team to compete against the globe`s finest talents on home soil.
