Italy then responded, with Tim Held's pipe attack putting them up 17-14. Despite Portugal staying close, Andrea Truocchio's winning first-time attack at 22-17 secured the set for Italy at 25-20, putting them back in the lead in the match. The fourth and final set began evenly, but Italy soon broke away. Held's lob made it 10-5, and a winning attack from Frascio extended the lead to 16-9.
