Napoli's Serie A Squad List: Badiashile for Buongiorno, Mazzocchi Currently Out
Napoli currently boasts a very deep squad and still needs to offload players. This is not only for financial reasons but also because, as of today, there is no room for new Over-23 signings. While there are no available slots, the departure of Buongiorno – at least until January – will make space for Badiashile, who will complete his medical examinations today. However, there is indeed room for the first new signing, Favasuli, who, being a 2004 birth year, is an Under-23 player. He will not occupy a spot on the Serie A list but will take one on the UEFA list, which has different regulations.
Let's examine the situation in detail, remembering that the Serie A list consists of four homegrown players (if fewer are registered, slots are lost, and Napoli only has Contini and Vergara), four Italian players, and seventeen Over-23 players. There is an unlimited number of Under-23 players; this year, players born from 2004 onwards are considered Under-23. Favasuli, for example, as mentioned, is an Under-23 and could therefore be registered immediately.
It's important to recall that 'club-trained' players refer to footballers who, between the ages of 15 (or the start of the season in which they turned 15) and 21 (or the end of the season in which they turned 21), regardless of nationality or age, have been definitively registered by the club they currently play for over a period of 36 months, not necessarily continuous, or for three full seasons. In this context, for instance, Obaretin does not qualify as a homegrown player but is considered an Over-23 and is therefore already out of the club's plans.
Currently, the players deemed out of the squad list are Obaretin, Folorunsho, Lindstrom, and Mazzocchi. The exclusion of Mazzocchi was necessary to register Lang and is considered the least impactful departure, especially with the potential arrival of Favasuli in that position. Consequently, even for major signings like Gabriel Jesus, Nicolas Jackson, or others, a spot needs to be freed up by Lucca or Lang. Let's look at the situation in detail:
