Tamme Tokyo Spring 2027
The Japanese fashion term "docking" refers to the practice of combining elements from two distinct garments into a single piece. This technique, less familiar in English, is central to Tatsuya Tamada's work with his brand, Tamme.
For his Spring 2027 collection, Tamada continued to explore the imagery of his police officer father. He infused the authoritative elements of his father's uniform into more casual, street-smart designs, blurring the lines between formal and casual, and controlled and relaxed.
Tamada explained his approach: "I wanted to take familiar elements, like the three-panel construction of a jacket or the standard pairing of a suit jacket and trousers with a dress shirt, and soften their finish." He achieved this by adjusting silhouettes, rounding shoulders, and altering lengths to move away from the rigid outlines typically found in uniform-style clothing.
The collection showcased this fusion: two gray-blue button-up shirts were combined into one garment; a khaki sport coat was transformed into a field jacket; and blazers were reimagined as hoodies. Sweatpants featured the elegant drape and flare characteristic of tailored trousers. Polo shirts and zip-ups incorporated crest-shaped cutouts on the chest, resembling torn-off badges of authority, revealing striped shirting underneath.
The resulting collection presented a "sartorial palimpsest"—a subtly grunge wardrobe that still retained hints of authority, existing in a space between conservative conformity and individual rebellion. Tamada described his goal as creating "one look, where different intentions and layers overlap to form a single, cohesive whole," emphasizing the art of "peeling back existing layers."
